The Arkansas Guard has about 1,000 troops supporting civil authorities across the state. Several of the Soldiers, many of whom just recently returned from Iraq with the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, spent their day clearing debris from the roadways in Marmaduke, Ark., with chainsaws and muscle.

Earlier today, the Airmen along with local authorities from the fire department saved an elderly couple from carbon monoxide poisoning during a door-to-door wellness check in the Breckenridge county community.

California has wheels up for upgraded MAFFS

A California Air National Guard C-130J Hercules cargo aircraft from the 146th Airlift Wing releases water in a test of a new Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) system in late January. The 146th was the first unit to be approved for use of the new MAFFS II system.

A young boy shows off his soccer skills to Staff Sgt. Milbert Bourgeois and another friend at the Belovodsk, or Belovodosky orphanage, north of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Airmen from nearby Manas Air Base visit the orphanage frequently to share friendship and donated toys, as well as clothing, blankets, diapers and toiletries. There are more than 265 disabled children in the orphanage between the ages of 4 and 18. Bourgeois is a Nevada Air National Guardsman who is deployed with the 376th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron.
