Army Guard officer hopes to make a difference in Africa

U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Roosevelt Barfield, Deputy Director of Operations, Operations and Logistics Directorate, U.S. Africom, talks members of the 354th Civil Affairs Brigade during his visit to the Medical Civil Affairs Project (MEDCAP) in Chirmitti Village, Ethiopia. During the MEDCAP, U.S. doctors, nurses, and medical technicians with the 354th Civil Affairs Brigade worked hand and hand with their Ethiopian counterparts to provide Healthcare to the Villagers of Chirmitti. The 354th Civil Affairs Brigade is with the Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa based at Camp Lemonier, Djibouti.
Fallen Soldiers honored at annual 'First Muster' in Salem

Soldiers from the Massachusetts National Guard, bow their heads in prayer given by Rev. Paul Bresnahan April 4 at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salem, Mass., in remembrance of Capt. Stephen Abbott, founder and first commander of the 2nd Corps of Cadets. This ceremony was part of the 372nd anniversary of the first Salem Muster.
Hurricane response preparation underway for states

The purpose of this exercise is to test the current Louisiana Guard response plan, identify deficiencies and evaluate their ability to respond to multiple missions simultaneously prior to the 2009 hurricane season.
Ohio Air Guard unit wins award for environmental excellence

A concrete plant in Mansfield, Ohio is providing recycled concrete materials being used for the 179th Airlift Wing's "Green Project" renovation in Mansfield, Ohio. It is the first ANG unit to require the mandatory use of recycled content material for the renovation of a building.

Rieth (left), the adjutant general of New Jersey and Mr. Gazmend Oketa (right), minister of defense for the republic of Albania, cut a special anniversary cake commemorating the 15-year partnership between New Jersey and the Republic of Albania in December. Oketa's visit coincides with the 15th anniversary of his nation's participation in the State Partnership Program with the New Jersey National Guard. This week, Albania achieved its long-standing goal of membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Guard's disaster response missions grew nationwide today

A once proud Oak tree stands stripped of its foliage and wrapped in debris from the devastated town of Mena, Ark. A powerful tornado ripped through the community of 5,700 the evening of April 10. A contingent of 30 members of the Arkansas Army National Guard's 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team entered the town shortly after the tornado passed and began providing assistance. More troops poured in the next morning to begin search and rescue operations, and to provide security.
Truax hosts joint 'suspicious' package exercise

Tech. Sgt. Michael Harvey, 115th Security Forces Squadron, provides cordon security around Bldg. 500 following a report of a suspicious package during an exercise here March 18. The joint exercise included many different units on Truax Field as well as the U.S. Postal Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the 54th Civil Support Team.
