Agriculture teams call for equal parts citizen and Soldier

Lt. Gen. Clyde Vaughn, director of the Army National Guard, addresses members of the media during a press conference on the mission of the Guard's Agricultural Development Teams at The Pentagon, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009. The ADTs are made up of Guard SOldiers and Airmen that have a civilian background in farming or agriculture-related businesses and have been working with local Afghani officials to rebuild Afghanistan's agricultural infrastructure and promote sustainable farming techniques. The press conference included Vaughn, Secretary of the Army Pete Geren and via satellite from Afghanistan Col. Stan Poe, commander of the ADT in East Ghazni Province, and Sultan Hussein Abasyar, Ghazni Province director of agriculture, irrigation and livestock.

Rhode Island National Guard members in town to support the presidential inauguration situate themselves in the East Gym at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., on Jan. 16, 2009. Thousands of Guardmembers from several states were arriving in the nation's capital to provide communications, transport, traffic control, medical and logistical support and crowd control, or participate in the inaugural celebrations themselves.
