The Nevada Army National Guard kicked off Exercise Cartwheel 2024 in Fiji’s Nausori Highlands, with two weeks of intensive training from Sept. 10-20. Over 400 multinational forces from seven nations, including the U.S., Fiji, Tonga, Australia, New Zealand, France, and the United Kingdom, participated in the U.S. Army Pacific-led exercise, which focused on enhancing combat readiness and strengthening partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region. The Nevada Guard, including Soldiers from the 609th Engineer Company, spearheaded key activities such as rappelling and live-fire exercises. This military-to-military training with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces fostered cooperation, building expeditionary readiness and interoperability to prepare forces for crises and contingencies while supporting regional peace and stability. National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, marks a time to showcase and honor the many contributions Hispanic Americans have made to the Defense Department and the nation. The amendment guarantees all American women the right to vote and legal recognition as equal citizens. During Northern Strike 24-1, winter iteration, Guard Soldiers from Michigan's Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment, underwent cold-weather training to enhance their capabilities in an Arctic-like environment. The indirect fire infantrymen, commonly referred to as mortarmen, provided support for Special Operations Forces at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center. The Delaware National Guard recently celebrated the return of seven soldiers from a 10-month deployment in Southwest Asia. Maj. Gen. Michael Berry, the adjutant general for the state, commended the adaptability of the C-12 aircraft and its aircrews, noting their ability to carry out missions for both Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve in a single deployment. Berry emphasized the aircraft's uniqueness and the professionalism of the pilots and NCOs, considering them as a valuable force multiplier for ground forces' safety. Delaware Governor John Carney, present to welcome the service members, expressed deep admiration for the dedication and sacrifice of the Delaware Army and Air National Guard. Carney acknowledged the historic demand on the Guard, stating that there hasn't been a time in history where they've been called on to do more. Since its inception in 1993, approximately 287,156 teens have enrolled in the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program, with more than 207,000 of those graduating – a 72-percent success rate. The program aims to get teenagers on track toward graduating from high school and on to a promising future.
