Sgt. Scott Honnens, a crew chief serving in the Nebraska Army National Guard, helps the pilots of a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter deliver a 780-gallon bucket of water on hot spots in support of firefighters battling the Buffalo Creek wildfire in western Nebraska Nov. 16, 2021. Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts directed the activation of two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters with water buckets and 9 Army National Guard soldiers for the mission after a fire started and quickly spread burned more than 2,000 acres the previous day. On March 26, 2020, Lt. Col. Paul “Tucker” Jancsy, an air liaison officer with the National Guard Bureau, collapsed on his kitchen floor in Saratoga Springs, New York. A joint anti-terrorism force protection officer with the National Guard Bureau, Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Childs has a love of sword fighting – rapier and dagger, specifically – and for more than 30 years he’s competed in competitions and taught others about the sport. Devon Woslum, a human intelligence collector for the 173rd Brigade Engineer Battalion, 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, discusses her role in the Afghan evacuee mass vaccination mission as part of Operation Allies Welcome, Sept. 16, 2021, at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. On August 6th, 2021, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) received a rescue request fora hiker in distress near Glacier Pass in Archangel Valley. Initial rescue efforts from a civilian component were postponed due to weather. the 176th initiated a launch of a rescue crews using information from the hikers, launching an HH60G Pave Hawk from Joint Base Elemendorf Richardson (JBER). The Pave Hawk crew safely navigated to the hiking parties' location where the team provided field care and hoisted the patient into the Pave Hawk, transporting them to a Mat-Su area hospital. U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Kevin Gregg, a loadmaster with the 187th Airlift Squadron, shares what it is like being part of a MAFFS (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System) activated C-130 Hercules aircraft. On July 19, 2021, members assigned to the 153rd Airlift Wing prepare and load the C-130 Hercules aircraft with a U.S. Forest Service MAFFS in Cheyenne, Wyo. The C-130H aircraft departed to California on July 20, 2021. PATRIOT 21 is a training exercise designed for military members to work alongside civilian emergency management and first responders in the same manner they would during a natural disaster so that in the case of a real-world disaster all agencies can maximize their response efforts, provide necessary resources to the communities affected and save more lives. A U-H 60 Black Hawk crew with the Arizona Army National Guard rescued three stranded climbers in snow covered Haribo Canyon in Sedona, Tuesday, January, 26, 2021. Pilot U.S. Army Capt. Shannon Lancaster along with copilot Chief Warrant Officer Paul Duff, crew chiefs Staff Sgt. Karl Evans and Sgt. Jonathan Atcitty and medic Sgt. Javier Carrillo, hoisted up the climbers and flew them to a command post where emergency responders transported them to a local hospital. Capt.
