Gilbert Roldan, the 40th Infantry Division chief of staff, presented Bob Baker, a Korean War veteran and pillar of his San Diego community, with the Bronze Star with "V" device on November 21, 2020, at the Church of the Nativity in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) were utilized at extreme capabilities during the 2020 California wildfires, a season that marked the worst in California history. More than four million acres burned as a result of uncontrollable wildfires, majority happening since July 2020. Campbell works as a “Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape” specialist for the Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City, Iowa. According to Campbell the main part of survival on the battle field is mustering up the mental strength or will to survive in extremely difficult situations.Mental health is a particular concern during these times of social distancing and isolation because of covid-19. Campbell says issues concerning mental health affect everyone. He said it affects people in urban and rural areas, and he adds that members of the military are not immune. Video by Senior Master Sgt. Sgt Kyle Sprague, a stryker vehicle commander with C Company, 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment, is one of the Washington guardsmen currently activated to assist local food banks throughout Washington. More than 230 Washington National Guard members are working with Food Lifeline in the South Seattle industrial district processing, packing and preparing food for distribution to more than 300 food banks across Washington. The Delaware National Guard is assisting the Food Bank of Delaware to help address increased demands for food assistance a midst the coronavirus public health crisis. DE Food Bank is hosting an additional two drive-thru mobile pantries in each Delaware county for families struggling to afford food. On March 23, 2020, members of the West Virginia National Guard answered quickly to conduct COVID-19 testing on staff and residence at a Nursing home in Morgantown, WV. Soldiers and Airmen from the Civil Support Team, and AITEC, were given instruction on testing procedures through West Virginia University Medicine, and Flight Surgeon for the 77th Troop Command, COL Kermit Huebner. The 176th Wing Air National Guard deployed its Arctic Sustainment Package to the Beaufort Sea, February 25th, 2020. Arctic Sustainment Packages are deployable, air-dropped packages, which provide shelter, heat and food for 28 people for approximately 6.5 days in extreme arctic weather conditions. Members of multiple different civilian, U.S. military and foreign military components participated in a search and extraction training mission as part of exercise Arctic Eagle 2020 at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Feb. 23.
