Arkansas Guard helps Gustav's displaced

Members of the Arkansas Army National Guard's 142nd Fires Brigade hand out water and packaged military meals (MREs -Meals Ready to Eat) to individuals at Fort Chaffee who sought shelter from Hurricane Gustav. The World War II era post is housing over 2,300 displaced citizens while the Salvation Army is on hand at Fort Chaffee to take the lead role in feeding the evacuees. Fort Chaffee processed over 10,000 evacuees in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago.

Army Guard teams with teen filmmakers to make documentary

Teenage filmmakers work with Army National Guard members July 17. Teens from around the country produced three documentaries about "action heroes" in the Army Guard in a Fresh Films competition earlier this year. The Army Guard is looking for more teen filmmakers to make a documentary about the experiences of Guardmembers. They can apply online at www.fresh-films.com through Sept. 8.
