Florida Guard Prepares for Potential Hurricane Relief Mission

Members of the 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment, make their way past a makeshift tow truck in a high-water vehicle as they search flooded roads and properties for people needing assistance or evacuation. The Florida National Guard assisted civilian agencies with nearly 500 Soldiers and Airmen supporting logistical operations and high-water vehicle rescues across central and northern Florida after Tropical Storm Fay struck in late August.

Rescue squadrons provide support for Hurricane Gustav

Hurricane relief efforts underway

The Texas Air National Guard C-130 brought 23 evacuees from Beaumont, Texas, to San Antonio before Hurricane Gustav reached the Gulf Coast. Members from the 37th Training Wing and 59th Medical Wing at Lackland AFB, Texas, and from the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve help in the hurricane relief efforts as Hurricane Gustav approaches the Gulf Coast. The Port of San Antonio on Kelly AFB is the staging base for FEMA Region 6.
