Guardmembers complete world-class training and competition

The 6-kilometer practice race challenged the racers to apply all of the skills they learned during the camp over the first three days. "This was an open door training event for the purpose of presenting the sport of biathlon to the individual National Guard states, said Wilkens. The four-day event covered everything from basic skiing techniques to competitive marksmanship and offered a greater number of Soldiers and Airmen the opportunity to participate in instruction generally only available to national-level athletes.

Wyatt, the director of the Air National Guard, addressed nearly 100 members of the Colorado Air National Guard’s 140th Wing on Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo., Dec. 14, 2010. To begin the visit, Wyatt presented challenge coins to Master Sgt. Evan Fenn, who was named Air Force Crew Chief of the Year, and Maj. Mike Gommel for his demonstrated excellence.

National Guard, Reserve survival course graduates first Airmen

Staff Sgt. Andrew Dunn and Airman 1st Class Brian Alfano were the first Reserve and Air National Guard Airmen to graduate from the 22nd Training Squadron’s survival, evasion, resistance and escape course at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. They graduated Dec. 2, 2010. This course was specially tailored so Guard and Reserve SERE specialists could receive training comparable to their active duty counterparts. Airman Dunn is from the Air Force Reserve Command’s 514th Air Mobility Wing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., and Airman Alfano is from the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing at Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach, N.Y.

Puerto Rico Air Guard lifts injured manatee to new life

Accompanied by six biologists and two veterinarians, the sea cow is heading to San Juan, Puerto Rico, after suffering minor injuries in a boat strike. Officials from Air Mobility Command and the Puerto Rico Air National Guard’s 156th Airlift Wing are working together to airlift the mammal to San Juan.
