California Guard members tackle Vibrant Response 12

First Sgt. Gerald Davis, first sergeant for Headquarters-Headquarters
Company, 49th Military Police Brigade, California Army National Guard, is
confronted by role-playing victims of a simulated nuclear detonation Aug. 17,
2011, during Vibrant Response 12. The victims were asking for food, water and
shelter. The large exercise conducted by U.S. Army North included almost
8,000 military and civilian personnel. It was held at Indiana's Muscatatuck
Urban Training Complex.

Connecticut Guard members rescue Irene-stranded residents
August 30, 2011
Members of the 192nd Multi-Functional Engineer Battalion, Connecticut Army

2011. The engineers were among many Connecticut Guardsmen called out to
assist local authorities before, during and after the storm battered the

California Guard joins interagency effort targeting marijuana growers, environmental contaminants

Support-Counterdrug speak with a U.S. Forest Service agent (center) while
bundling irrigation line to be removed from Mendocino National Forest. The
25-agency effort Operation Full Court Press removed 40 miles of irrigation
line from California forests this summer in addition to 25 tons of other
garbage, 38 weapons, 20 vehicles, $30,000 in cash, 632,000 marijuana plants
and a ton of processed marijuana.

Defense Department prepares in advance of Hurricane Irene

Virginia National Guard Soldiers from the West Point-based 237th Engineer
Company prepare for possible duty in response to Hurricane Irene in Onancock
on Aug. 26, 2011, by staging vehicles, equipment and fuel. The Virginia
National Guard has been authorized to bring up to 300 personnel on state
active duty for possible missions including high water transport and light
debris removal.

firefighters as they exit a house fire in Salisbury, Md., on Aug. 27, 2011.
Local first responders were called to a house fire after a tree downed by
Hurricane Irene caused power lines to arc electricity through a surge
protector inside the home. Residents were home and were able to exit the
house to safety.
