Thailand: Guard members dedicate new school building they help build

Army Maj. Gen. William Beard, left, deputy commanding general of United States Army Pacific, Royal Thai Army Lt. Gen. Thawatchai Samutsakorn, middle, commanding general of 2nd Army Area, and Payakaphut Pokeaw, right, provincial governor, cut the ceremonial ribbon during the dedication ceremony for the multipurpose building at the Ban Wang Nam Khiao School in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, today. The Royal Thai Army and U.S. Army with the Washington national Guard's 176th Engineer Company constructed the multipurpose building over the course of one month during Exercise Cobra Gold 2012. The exercise improves the capability to plan and conduct combined joint operations, building relationships between partnering nations and improving interoperability across the Asia-Pacific region.

Lyon is participating in Yama Sakura 61, which was held just north of Osaka. Yama Sakura is an annual Japan-based, simulation-driven, joint-bilateral command post exercise held with the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force and the U.S. military, designed to enhance U.S. and Japan combat readiness and interoperability and strengthen military relationships.

Cobra Gold 2012 is the 31st iteration of the joint, multinational exercise held to enhance interoperability with participating nations and to advance security throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Michigan Guard member helped pave way for partnership with Liberia

Air Force Master Sgt. Leslie Blanks returned home Jan. 6, 2012, after a 6-month deployment to Liberia, where he worked as a mentor and adviser to a group of Liberian military personnel. Blanks is a member of the 127th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. The Michigan National Guard and the Armed Forces of Liberia recently entered into a partnership through the National Guard's State Partnership Program.

Kuwait: Tennessee Guard mother, daughter duo serving up smiles

Partnership benefits New Hampshire Guard, El Salvador
