A convoy led by the Louisiana National Guard's 1086th Transportation Company, Task Force Muleskinner, makes its way through Kabul May 23, 2012. The unit was completing a 400-mile convoy from Bagram Air Field to Forward Operating Base Warrior and back as security for more than a dozen Afghan-owned cargo trucks, taking one of Afghanistan's most dangerous roads - Highway 1.

Polish president bestows medal upon Illinois governor, Guard members

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski visited Illinois Army National Guard Soldiers and five Polish officers who were conducting training May 20, 2012 at the Marseilles Training Center in Marseilles, Ill. Komorowski was accompanied by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and senior leaders of the Illinois National Guard, to include Army Maj. Gen. William L. Enyart, the adjutant general of the Illinois National Guard. Komorowski presented Quinn, Enyart, and 13 other Illinois Guard members with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, an honor that is bestowed upon foreigners for distinguished contributions to international cooperation with the nation of Poland.
