Botswana: Collective training creates partnership between U.S., Botswana Defense Forces

New Jersey Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Dustin Widas, a squad leader with Company A 1-114th, leads a patrol during training at Thebephatshwa Air Base in Botswana. Widas is in Botswana as part of Southern Accord 12, an annual combined, joint exercise that brings together U.S. military personnel with counterparts from the Botswana Defense Force to conduct humanitarian assistance/disaster relief operations, peace keeping operations and aeromedical evacuation to enhance military capabilities and interoperability.

Rwanda Defense Force soldiers and policemen practice their combat casualty care skills at a combat lifesaver course held June 11 to 15, 2012. The RDF invited U.S. Army medics from Task Force Raptor, 3rd Squadron, 124th Cavalry Regiment, Texas Army National Guard, to attend the seminar. The Texas National guard members participate in various military-to-military training sessions in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, whose mission is to strengthen partner nation military capacity in East Africa.
Botswana: Hawaii National Guard provides helicopters to support Southern Accord 12 in Botswana

Soldiers of Hawaii Army National Guard's Bravo Company, 1-171st Aviation Regiment, based at Wheeler Army Airfield in Wahiawa, Hawaii, assemble the last of four Chinooks they transported to Botswana in support of Southern Accord 12. SA 12 brings together U.S. military personnel with their Botswana Defense Force counterparts to enhance military capabilities and interoperability.

The Texas National Guard members conducted various military-to-military training sessions in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, whose mission is to build partnerships with nations in East Africa.

Vermont Air National Guard members among U.S. service members providing humanitarian aid in Senegal

U.S. service members carry a local woman unable to walk into the gates of the clinic in Thies, Senegal, July 11, 2012. The medical care provided by U.S. service members is part of Exercise Western Accord 2012, a multi-lateral exercise with Senegalese and several West Africa nations. The training exercise runs from June 26 - July 24 and involves the armed forces of Senegal, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Gambia and France, as well as U.S. service members – primarily Reservists from the Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force.
