Airmen from Maryland, Michigan and Pennsylvania highlight interoperability

A Maryland Air National Guard pilot returns to support Saber Strike and provide close-air-support after refueling with a KC-135 Stratotanker June 9, 2015, in Latvian airspace. Guardsmen from Maryland, Michigan and Pennsylvania came together to support Saber Strike 15 by providing aerial-refueling and close-air-support. Saber Strike 15 is a joint and multinational exercise designed to promote stability in the Baltic area and provide an opportunity for military members to sharpen their skills.

U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Thomas Frutos stands with Latvian Maj. Vilnis Metlans following Frutos’ award of the Latvian National Armed Forces Air Force Commander Award of Honor, Grade 3, in Lielvarde, Latvia, April 30, 2015. Frutos is assigned to the 217th Air Operations Group, Michigan Air National Guard, based at Battle Creek, Mich., and is the first U.S. Armed Forces member to receive the Latvian award. He was recognized for his expertise in airspace management, which resulted in a letter of agreement between the Latvian Civil Aviation Authority and the Latvian military creating military training airspace.

Maryland National Guard partners with Estonian bomb squad to save lives

The U.S. Army European Command's Humanitarian Mining Action program brought the Estonian Rescue Board and Maryland National Guard Soldiers together to create public service announcements. The purpose of this project is to raise awareness of and educate the public about the unexploded ordnance issue in Estonia.
