Vigilant Guard is a multi-day homeland defense exercise designed to enhance the Guard's and other agencies' capabilities and abilities to join in an emergency.

Colonel Fennell is finishing up what will most likely be his last combat deployment with the A-10. As part of the 111th Fighter Wing, a Pennsylvania Air National Guard unit, the 103rd FS is scheduled to lose its aircraft in the spring of 2009. Colonel Fennell is a pilot with the 103rd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron.
