Idaho Guard supports Special Olympics

Army Guard Staff Sgt. Laura Schmitt, assigned to the Joint Force Headquarters in Idaho, loads snowshoe equipment at the Sun Valley Nordic Center during the Special Olympics Invitational Games held last February. The event helped all organizations involved plan for this year's big event.

Air Guard, Coast Guard train and save together

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team 91105 descend from a U.S. Air Force HH-60G Pave Hawk from the 129th Rescue Wing, California Air National Guard, Moffett Federal Airfield, Calif., onto the Coast Guard cutter Tern in the San Francisco Bay Jan. 28, 2009. Crewmembers conducted vertical insertion training, which is a fast-paced technique used to effectively deploy law enforcement teams to a high-risk situation. Shortly after the training was completed, the 129th RQW and Coast Guard crews rescued a downed pilot near Pillar Point, Calif.

Idaho Guard rescues two boys with new hoist

Soldiers of Company A 1-168th Aviation perform hoist training on a UH-60 Blackhawk at Gowen Field on September 16, 2008. The hoist was recently installed on the UH-60 and will be used during emergency rescues for the units state mission.

Illinois Guard unit donates surplus food to shelter

Ashley Laws and Chief Warrant Officer (2) Michael Decker help two Holy Angels helpers unpack the surplus food that they delivered to the Holy Angel Homeless Shelter. Soldiers of the 1344th Transportation Company based in East St. Louis will deliver food to different shelters throughout their community after each drill.
