Oregon Guard participate in Shanti-Doot exercise in Bangladesh

Oregon Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Darrin Culp, of the 249th Regiment Training Institute in Monmouth, Ore., oversees two Nepalese soldiers as they tend to their role-playing comrade during a medical emergency scenario on the first day of Exercise Shanti Doot 3, in Bangladesh March 9. Culp and his fellow Soldiers were invited to participate as a battlefield lifesaving technique instructors through the State Partnership Program between Oregon and Bangladesh. Exercise Shanti Doot 3 is a Bangladesh armed forces-hosted and U.S. Pacific Command Global Peace Operations Initiative supported joint multi-national exercise designed to give operations, logistics, planning and tactical peace-keeping training to members of 13 different countries in preparation for United Nations Peace-keeping Operations.

Maryland Air National Guard member awarded the Air Force Cross for "extraordinary heroism"

Maryland Air National Guard Capt. Barry F. Crawford Jr. was presented the Air Force Cross during a ceremony at the Pentagon April 12, 2012, for his heroism during his service as a Special Tactics Officer while deployed to Afghanistan. On May 4, 2010, Crawford - while attached to an Army Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha and its Afghan partner force - was instrumental in saving the lives of three Afghan soldiers and evacuated two Afghans killed in action.

Senate honors California Air National Guard members for international maritime rescue

129th Rescue Wing Airmen conducted a long-range over-water rescue mission 700 miles off the coast of Mexico March 10-12 to save two fishermen who were burned in a diesel fire onboard the Chinese fishing vessel, Fu Yuan Yu #871.
