National Guard members called up to assist southeastern states during Hurricane Matthew

Huft, a member of the active component, was invited by Cook to address the Army National Guard’s Plans, Operations, Readiness, Training Advisory Council, or PORTAC, during its semi-annual meeting on Sept. 19 in Savannah, Ga. Cook is the national chairman of the group that represents the Army Guard in 54 States and Territories.
Maine Army Guard's B Co., 172nd Infantry Regiment climbs to new heights training on mountaineering skills

Mallett and his fellow Soldiers spent time at Eagles Bluff training on mountaineering, rappelling, knot tying and medical evacuation skills.
Alaska Air Guard pararescue teams save injured hiker

An aircrew with the Alaska Air National Guard’s 210th Rescue Squadron flies at treetop level aboard an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter while taking part in a search and rescue training event. Aircrews from the 210th RQS, in addition to crews from the 211th and 212th Rescue Squadrons, rescued an injured hiker near Pioneer Peak, Alaska, Thursday. Aircrews and pararescue teams from the squadrons often assist the U.S. Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers, the National Park Service and other agencies with search and rescue missions.

The device has been adopted by the Army and is scheduled to be manufactured and distributed to maintenance organizations Army-wide.
