Army secretary visits Indiana Guard cyber-training complex

Secretary of the Army Dr. Mark T. Esper visited 38th Infantry Soldiers during their annual training at Camp Atterbury, Ind. on July 20, 2018. Esper's visit to Indiana was part of a larger tour that included early morning physical fitness with the LifeFit program and visits to Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, Cybertropolis and the Muscatatuck Cyber Academy.

Texas Transportation Company sets new Guard gun crew record

The 249th Transportation Company, 372nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, set a new National Guard record as of June 2018 for being the only sustainment unit to have 32 qualified mounted gun crews. The 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard transportation company, set this new record during their annual training at Fort Hood, Texas.

DoD changes policy on transfer of Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits

The Defense Department issued a substantive change to its policy on the transfer by service members in the uniformed services of Post-9/11 GI Bill educational benefits to eligible family member recipients. Effective one year from the date of this change, eligibility to transfer those benefits will be limited to service members with less than 16 years of total active-duty or selected reserve service, as applicable.

N.Y. Army Guard aircrews assist in forest fire fighting

A New York Army National Guard  UH-60  assigned to 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation, flies over a 526-acre forest fire in Flat Rock State Forest in Altona, N.Y., on July, 13, 2018 during a fire fighting mission.  Two UH-60s  responded to a forest fire that broke out in Altona, N.Y., on July 12 on July 13 and again on July 15.
