National Guard technician program turns 50

Vehicle maintenance and repairs in the National Guard often falls to dual-status technicians - federal civilian employees who are required to maintain membership in a Guard unit as part of their employment. Technicians are also required to wear their military uniform and adhere to military customs and courtesies while on duty.  This month marks the 50-year anniversary of the technician program, which came into being Jan. 1, 1969.
