Thousands of National Guard members converging on Milwaukee

A MATV (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All Terrain Vehicle) seemingly stands watch over the Frontier Airlines Center in downtown Milwaukee, site of the 133rd National Guard Association of the United States General Conference and Exhibition. Iowa National Guard continues to support Missouri River flood response

A UH-60 Black Hawk hooks on to a large bag of sand to deliver to residents along the Missouri river June 8, 2011. Four UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters from the Minnesota and Iowa National Guard and a CH-47 Chinook from the Illinois Army National Guard have been providing support by delivering sandbags to many of the critical areas along the river and by monitoring critical areas along the coast line. Over 400 National Guard members have been activated to provide support to many of the communities along the Missouri who are in danger of flooding.

The New York ANG C-130 flew the airdrop mission in conjunction with another C-130 from the Alaska ANG. Airdrops help mitigate the danger of transporting supplies via convoy.
Nebraska National Guard riggers prepare sandbags to protect Omaha airfield

Robinson and several other 165th Soldiers were preparing the bags to be dropped at a nearby levee in the event of an emergency.

Pierce and Kaltenborn are spur holders. The tradition of the spur ride and 'earning the spurs' goes back to the origin of the U.S. Cavalry, with new riders learning the ropes prior to donning the spurs that earmark a cavalryman.

Minnesota National Guard truly 'builds' partnership with Croatia

Squads of Minnesota Guard members have been rotating through Nasice, Croatia, which is located on the northern slopes of Krndija Mountain in eastern Slavonia, for annual training this spring and summer. The Soldiers are working side by side with Croatian army engineers to complete a project designed to provide training and strengthen the cooperative relationship that exists between Minnesota and Croatia, who are partners through the National Guard's State Partnership Program.
