Louisiana Guard to fly new helicopter in overseas mission

Brothers serving together help renovate school in Suriname

Brothers Army Spc. Waylon Blasius and Army Spc. Weston Blasius take a break from work at the Pater van der Pluym School in Suriname's Brokopondo district Aug. 1, 2011. Both brothers are carpentry and masonry specialists assigned to the South Dakota Army National Guard's 155th Engineer Company. Soldiers from the 155th are in Suriname as part of New Horizons 2011, a joint humanitarian mission between the Suriname government and the U.S. Southern Command with the goal of helping to improve the quality of life for the people of Suriname. South Dakota and Suriname are paired in the National Guard's State Partnership Program.

Missouri Guard medics lend support to Disaster Recovery Jobs Program

through the Disaster Recovery Jobs Program in Joplin. The medics use
different colors of tape to designate individuals with various pre-existing
medical conditions, which enables them to treat them more effectively, should
health concerns arise.
