New York Army National Guard quarry detachment ready to crush it

Troops of the New York Army National Guard’s 204th Engineer Detachment (Quarry) remove a failing conveyor belt from a quarry machine called a “crusher” here on May 14, 2016. Operating the crusher, which can turn large rocks into various grades of construction material, is the detachment’s main mission. Soldiers of the detachment, which is based in Binghamton, N.Y., worked for about 10 hours on May 14 to fix several mechanical shortfalls and ensure the crusher is operational for the detachment’s annual training in July.

New Mexico National Guard medics share knowledge with Costa Rican Coast Guard members

Twenty-two Costa Rican Guarda Costas attended a two-day workshop conducted by Sgt. 1st. Class David Muniz and Sgt. Michael Marfia, medics from New Mexico National Guard, as part of the National Guard Bureau's State Partnership Program. Marfia explains how to properly apply a tourniquet to a leg wound to half of the participants. Muniz and Marfia shared their medical knowledge with the Coast Guard members on topics ranging from anatomy, triage, assessing breathing and consciousness, applying a tourniquet, splinting broken limbs and responding to a mass casualty incident.
