Air National Guard band gains international fame while deployed

Air National Guard band members assigned to the 571st Air Force band, Missouri National Guard, perform an acoustic version of a popular song while deployed to Southwest Asia in early August 2011. The band, Sidewinder, is a 10-member band that quickly gained fame after the a video of the performance was uploaded to YouTube.

Air Force, Reserve components, Cambodia armed forces partner for civil assistance mission

Air Force Maj. Nathaniel Duff and Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Capt. Sok Heng examine the ear of a Cambodian woman during Operation PACIFIC ANGEL 11-1 Aug. 8, 2011, in Bak Klarng, Cambodia. The operation supports U.S. Pacific Command’s capacity-building efforts by partnering with other governments in the region to provide medical, dental, optometry and engineer assistance to their citizens. Major Duff is an ear, nose and throat surgeon assigned to the 154th Medical Group, Hawaii Air National Guard. Captain Heng is a medic in the Royal Cambodian Air Force.

Brothers serving together help renovate school in Suriname

Brothers Army Spc. Waylon Blasius and Army Spc. Weston Blasius take a break from work at the Pater van der Pluym School in Suriname's Brokopondo district Aug. 1, 2011. Both brothers are carpentry and masonry specialists assigned to the South Dakota Army National Guard's 155th Engineer Company. Soldiers from the 155th are in Suriname as part of New Horizons 2011, a joint humanitarian mission between the Suriname government and the U.S. Southern Command with the goal of helping to improve the quality of life for the people of Suriname. South Dakota and Suriname are paired in the National Guard's State Partnership Program.
