Guard couples strengthen their marriages at "Strong Bonds" seminar

About 20 married couples attended an Army National Guard Strong Bonds marriage enrichment seminar Sept. 5-7 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Old Town Alexandria, Va. It was led by Chaplain, Lt. Col. Antonio Daggett. Strong Bonds is a chaplain-led seminar training concept that helps to build ready families by preparing, strengthening, and equipping them with tools for the stressors of military service. The Strong Bonds Program began in 1999, formerly known as Building Strong and Ready Families, and is now the central program of the Army chief of staff.

Oregon Air Guard flies "Down Under"

Major David Yao, 173rd Fighter Wing (FW) instructor pilot, Oregon Air National Guard, discussed the F-15 Eagle with Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F/A-18 Hornet pilot Flight Lieutenant James Atkinson, 2nd Operational Conversion Unit (OCU), during "Sentry Downunder" on August 26, 2008 at RAAF Williamtown, New South Wales, Australia. "Sentry Downunder" is a joint flight exercise with the 173rd FW, assisting the RAAF 2nd OCU advanced fighter weapons school conducted at RAAF Williamtown.

High-water vehicles: A must for the Guard's domestic response arsenal

Members of the 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment driving a high-water vehicle search flooded roads and properties for people needing assistance or evacuation. The Florida National Guard assisted civilian agencies with nearly 500 Soldiers and Airmen supporting logistical operations and high-water vehicle rescues across central and northern Florida after recent storms.

Wisconsin Guard announces largest deployment since WWII

A mock Iraqi villager, portrayed by Staff Sgt. Brian Varn, Wisconsin Rapids, is surprised and captured by members of the 132nd Brigade Support Battalion, Wisconsin Army National Guard, as they practice urban combat at one of Fort McCoy's military urban training sites Aug. 12, 2008. The unit is part of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, performing a 3-week Annual Training at Fort McCoy in preparation for an expected deployment to Iraq in early 2009. The brigade's training receives logistical support from elements of the 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.

Texas Guard prepares for Hurricane Ike

Staff Sgt. Cody Flatts of the 149th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 149th Fighter Wing, Texas Air National Guard directs buses to be fueled. The buses were dispatched from the Dallas county school district to Kelly USA, San Antonio, Texas for the Hurricane Ike evacuee efforts. Texas Military Forces began mobilization efforts today.
