National Guard uniquely positioned to boost cyber defense

Soldiers from the Fairfax, Va.-based Data Processing Unit conduct a computer network defense exercise Sept. 15, 2012, in Fairfax. The exercise used different cyber scenarios of varying difficulty in order to evaluate the proficiency levels of the unit's Soldiers in computer network defense.

Soldiers from the Massachusetts National Guard 8th Infantry disembark from a train stopped in Columbus, N.M., on or about July 1, 1916. The Massachusetts Guardsmen were among the first National Guard units to arrive in Columbus after their 2,000-mile journey from Boston, after President Wilson federalized the entire force on June 18, 1916, the first use of the National Defense Act signed into law 15 days earlier.
