New Jersey Guard Airmen participate in Read Across America

Airman 1st Class Hannah Bartlett, 108th Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, reads Peggy Rathmann's "Officer Buckle and Gloria" to a group of fifth graders at the Brighton Avenue School, Atlantic City, during the Read Across America event on Feb. 24, 2015. Five NJANG Airmen participated in this year’s event at the school. Read Across America is an 18-year-old national initiative sponsored by the National Education Association to encourage young people to read by holding special reading events involving military and community members.
Virginia National Guard returns to routine operations after snow assistance

Virginia National Guard Soldiers from the Cedar Bluff-based 1033rd Engineer Company, 276th Engineer Battalion employ engineering equipment to remove snow in Lee County, Va. Feb. 28, 2015. More than 125 Soldiers have supported response and recover efforts following significant amounts of snowfall in Southwest and Eastern Virginia.
Guard members in Kentucky, Arkansas and Virginia respond to winter weather

Members of the Kentucky Army Guard have been on duty throughout the eastern and southern portions of the state assisting with clearing roads, emergency response and distribution of food, water and other supplies to those hardest hit by winter storms that moved through the area recently. Guard members in Arkansas and Virginia have been called out as well in response to winter weather that affected those areas.
Pennsylvania Army Guard named tops in Guard facilities management

The Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s Construction and Facilities Management Office were recently awarded the National Guard's Fred Aron Award for Excellence in Facilities Programs for being the highest performing Guard program in the nation. Competitors are judged on 10 areas including construction, resource management, strategic planning and facilities management.
109th Airlift Wing wraps up 27th year of Antarctic science support

The 109th AW recently wrapped up its 27th season of flying the ski-equipped LC-130 in support of the operation, which provides military logistics support to the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Program. The wing is the only unit in the U.S. military equipped with the LC-130 “Skibirds.”

National Guard cyber protection teams announced

Robinson, Arkansas. The Cyber Shield tested participants on a variety of real world cyber attack scenarios. As part of a continued commitment to cyber defense capabilities the first three of a planned 10 new cyber protection teams within the Army National Guard are planned to be activated within the next three fiscal years. The first team will spread between Michigan, Indiana and Ohio with the second and third teams to be located in Georgia and California.
Tennessee Army Guard teams assist local authorities with winter storm response

Soldiers from the Tennessee Army National Guard’s 267th Military Police Company check the welfare of a motorist stranded on Interstate 40 Friday night as a result of snow and ice storms that moved through the area. Soldiers from the unit patrolled more than 50 miles of highway during the worst of the storm assisting those who became stranded and bringing supplies to others. Soldiers from the Tennessee Army Guard are expected to remain on duty through Wednesday assisting local and state authorities with response to the storm.

Florida Guard member tackles sport fishing on NBC Sports show

Peter Jennison and his son, Morgan, bring in a sailfish off the coast of Miami Beach, Fla., during a taping of the "Bass 2 Billfish" sport fishing show in late January. The Jennisons, along with host, Peter Miller, and the Get Lit Fishing Team, brought in seven sailfish during the saltwater fishing excursion.
