Virginia National Guard celebrates 408th birthday with Jamestown Settlement

Senior leaders from the Virginia National Guard, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and state government gather to celebrate the 408th birthday of the Virginia National Guard and the founding of the Jamestown colony with a cake cutting May 14, 2015, at Jamestown Settlement in Williamsburg, Virginia. Brig. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the adjutant general of Virginia, Command Sgt. Maj. Alan M. Ferris, Virginia National Guard Senior Enlisted Advisor, and Phillip Emerson, Executive Director of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, cut the cake and were joined by Delegate T. Montgomery Mason of Virginia’s 93rd district, Homer Lanier, Interpretive Program Manager, Peter Armstrong, Senior Director of Museum Operations and Education, and Historical Interpreters Brian Beckley and Jay Templin.

Colorado and Oklahoma Guard members commemorate liberation of Dachau concentration camp

Laura Clellan, Land Component Commander for the Colorado Army National Guard, listen to one of the survivors of Dachau Concentration Camp prior to the commemorative ceremony for the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Dachau May 3. Members of these National Guard units participated in various ceremonies May 1-3, 2015, to honor the fallen and share the experience of the survivors and liberators. The 157th Infantry Regiment, one of the units that liberated the camp on April 29, 1945, initially mustered from the state of Colorado. The regiment was a subordinate unit to the 45th Infantry Division, initially formed in Oklahoma.

New York Air National Guard provides 'ski-bird' support to Canadian Forces Nunalivut 2015 Exercise

A 109th Airlift Wing LC-130 lands at the remote location in the vicinity of Victoria Strait, Nunavut, Canada, for the first time April 14, 2015, after a group of seven Airmen spent 10 days grooming the ski-way. The aircraft and Airmen were supporting Canada's annual Operation Nunalivut.

Oklahoma Army Guard helicopter airlifts feed to stranded cows

A 10th Combat Aviation Brigade CH-47 Chinook helicopter, operated by members of the Texas and Oklahoma National Guard, flies a personnel and equipment movement mission, Oct. 26, over Kabul, Afghanistan. A similar craft helped save stranded cattle on May 12, 2015.

South Carolina National Guard hosts state partnership visit with Colombian army

U.S. Soldiers with the South Carolina Army National Guard exchanged maintenance ideas with members of the Colombian army during a three-day state partnership engagement in South Carolina May 4-6, 2015. The South Carolina National Guard established a formal state partnership with Colombia in 2012 and has conducted multiple engagements to share ideas to assist both partners with equipment maintenance programs.

New York Army National Guard aircrews train by fighting Catskill forest fire

New York Army National Guard aircrews fill their water bucket from a local state park lake to assist in fighting a forest fire in Shawangunk Ridge State Forest near Summitville in Ulster County May 5. Two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and crew members based at the Army Aviation Support Facility at Albany International Airport in Latham joined two additional New York State Police helicopters to drop water along the fire line to help contain the wildfire that began May 3.

Massachusetts graduates the USA’s first civilian police academy for Citizen-Soldiers

Rayner led the way for all National Guard runners and finished second place overall with his time of 2 hours, 37 minutes and 9 seconds.
