Mock disaster showcases new communication for National Guard and first responders

This Satellite Transportable Terminal (STT) and 4G LTE Cellular/Wireless transmission antenna in the background are part of the Disaster Incident Response Emergency Communications Terminal (DIRECT) equipment package that is being fielded to the Army National Guard to provide collaboration and communication services at incident sites that link local responders and emergency managers with state and federal authorities. The system was demonstrated on Oct. 29, 2014, in College Station Texas at Texas A&M Engineering Extension Services’ Disaster City, a realistic disaster environment that supports training exercises and testing of new equipment for first responders.

Aerial porters from the Kentucky Air National Guard’s 123rd Contingency Response Group load 8 tons of humanitarian aid and military supplies onto a U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft at Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport in Dakar, Senegal, Nov. 4, 2014. The aircraft and crew, from Dyess Air Force Base Texas, are deployed to Senegal as part of the 787th Air Expeditionary Squadron and will fly the cargo into Monrovia, Liberia, in support of Operation United Assistance, the U.S. Agency for International Development-led, whole-of-government effort to contain the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa.
