Virginia Army National Guard pilots fly supplies to iced-in island residents

A Virginia Army National Guard aviation crew from the Sandston-based 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment delivers food, mail and medicine Feb. 19, 2015, to iced-in Tangier Island, Virginia. The 1.2 square mile island has been iced in since freezing temperatures blanketed the commonwealth last week, making routine seaport deliveries impossible.

404th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade brings power and technology to its command post

The 404th MEB recently took part in the 2015 Warfighter Exercise at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Warfighter is a two-week strategic exercise including over 3,000 service members from the Army and Air National Guard, Army Reserves, Active Army, and Canadian Forces.

Texas-based Army aviation unit receives national award

A C-12 aircraft from Operational Support Airlift Detachment 49 takes off from Dallas Executive Airport en route to Austin, Texas. The detachment, commanded by Chief Warrant Officer 5 Todd Moorehead, was selected as the best fixed-wing unit in its category by the Joint Operational Support Airlift Center. They had just returned from receiving their award at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

More than 130,000 young people have received a second chance thanks to the National Guard's Youth ChalleNGe Program, which has 35 academies in 27 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico.

Calif. National Guard marksmen top active duty Soldiers for third straight national championship

A team of California Army National Guard Soldiers won their third title in a row at the U.S. Army Small Arms Championship at Fort Benning, Ga., Feb. 1-7, 2015. They fired in more than 20 matches using rifle and pistol against teams from the Reserves, Active Duty and ROTC. Team California took home the top trophy but also brought in numerous other team and individual awards that tested their stamina, aim, and knowledge of multiple guns and targeting scenarios.
