The mission of a JTAC is to integrate into Army units and be there to control close air support assets when needed. JTACs talk to the pilots overhead and lead them to enemy forces on the ground, bringing overwhelming firepower to the battle.

Strong community partnerships bolster 173rd FW’s mission

Drivers and pedestrians in downtown Klamath Falls, Ore., are treated to a large mural depicting the mission at the 173rd Fighter Wing and its namesake, Lt. David R. Kingsley, who received the Medal of Honor for heroism and sacrifice during WWII that cost him his life. The mural is painted by a local artist, Chris Young, and adorns the side of the local VFW Post.

Utah Homeland Response Force trains in Missouri seismic zone

Members of the Utah National Guard Homeland Response Force (HRF) participated in regional disaster training in Missouri, May 14-18, 2018, as part of the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ) exercise hosted by the Missouri National Guard. The UTNG 116th Engineer Company trained with members of Missouri Task Force One during search and extraction missions, shoring of unstable structures and breaching of structures to reach hypothetical patients.

U.S., Canadian forces strengthen bond with Maple Resolve

U.S. Army artillerymen from 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., conduct interoperability training with U.S. Marine Forward Observers from the 6th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company as part of Exercise Maple Resolve 18-01, Canadian Forces Base, Wainwright, Alberta, Canada. Maple Resolve is an allied exercise involving U.S. and Canadian militaries, as well as personnel from Great Britain, Australia, and France.
