The marker recognizes U.S. Army Cpl. Clinton Greaves and his act of "extraordinary heroism" during a U.S. cavalry fight with Apache Indians on Jan. 24, 1877, in the Florida Mountains of New Mexico.

The course, the first of its magnitude, is designed to get all of the brigade snipers together to train, broaden their horizons and share tactics, techniques and procedures, better preparing them for missions as snipers.
