Va. crews train, build trust with W. Va. special operators

Virginia National Guard flight crews provide aviation support to Soldiers assigned to the West Virginia National Guard’s 19th Special Forces Group Sept. 5, 2018, over Lake Erie near Buffalo, New York. The flight crews, assigned to the Sandston-based 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, dropped the operators into the lake while boats from Hamburg Water Rescue, Town of Hamburg Police, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security worked together to retrieve the troops and return to land.

Approximately 2,000 South Carolina National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are on duty to support local authorities in response and recovery operations to the ongoing flooding that followed Hurricane Florence's landfall.
