Indiana National Guardsman Master Sgt. Roy H. Zenor, plans NCO for the Joint Maneuver Training Center at Camp Atterbury, Ind., and other volunteers there have worked diligently to sort through thousands of donated books, toys and games earmarked for servicemembers in Indiana and nationwide thanks to a recent donation made by Barnes and Noble. The giant bookseller recently joined America Supports You, a Defense Department program connecting citizens and corporations with military personnel and their families serving at home and overseas.

Simulated terrorist threat trains military, civilian agencies

Members of the National Guard's civil support team board the USNS Henry J. Kaiser in biohazard suits here May 11 to investigate a simulated report of suspicious chemicals aboard during an exercise scenario for Alaska Shield/Northern Edge 2007. The civil support team worked in conjunction with the Seward police and fire departments, the Coast Guard, the FBI, and many other organizations to practice interagency coordination in an emergency situation. AKS/NE 07 is a State of Alaska/US NORTHCOM sponsored homeland defense and defense support of civil authorities exercise; part of the national-level Ardent Sentry/Northern Edge 07.
Chief: National Guard State Partnership Program can help keep a broken promise

The general visited the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site in Germany on May 6, 2007, en route to conferences of the National Guard's State Partnership Program (SPP) being held in Germany and in the Balkans. "It helps me remember why we do what we do and why it's important," he said. "The Guard has throughout its entire history been responsible for saving lives and preventing suffering and returning abnormal conditions to normal. We do it at home and we do it all around the world. We've done it for over 367 years, and we continue to do it today, and we'll do it as long as there's a United States of America." The SPP, which fosters cooperation via military, socio-political and economic conduits at local, state and national levels through 56 partnerships between states or territories and foreign countries, can help prevent more tragedies, he said.
