Army Spc. Scott D. Warren, a New York National Guard soldier serving at Contingency Operating Base Basra, Iraq, is a direct descendant of Maj. Gen. Joseph Warren, a Revolutionary War hero.

U.S. Army Sgt. Theodore Sweet, a welder with Company E, 3rd Battalion of the 172nd Infantry Regiment stands behind a mount for an M240B that he created for an all-terrain vehicle, May 18. The mount was used during a fire fight by special forces Soldiers recently. Sweet, of Burke, N.Y., welds this and many inventions from scrap metal that would normally be made by industrial machinery at his metal shop on Forward Operating Base Lightning.

Eplee is a member of the security force element for the Paktika Provincial Reconstruction Team and is currently working as a liaison between the brigade and PRT commanders. Paktika PRT is a joint team whose mission is to help legitimize the government of Afghanistan through development, governance and agricultural initiatives.

Louisiana Guardsman earns award for valor

The 2nd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment Commander Lt. Col. Eric "Clay" Rivers awards Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Champagne with an Army Commendation Medal with V device five years after the fact for his actions, March 10, 2005, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III, as Battalion Command Sgt. Maj. Sud Robertson witnesses. The 2-156th is currently deployed with the Louisiana National Guard's 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team to set the conditions for the responsible drawdown of U.S. armed forces and equipment in Iraq.
