Alaska National Guard Rapidly Deploys for Exercise ORCA 23

Members of the Mississippi National Guard's 47th Weapons of Mass Destruction - Civil Support Team process through a decontamination line June 14, 2023, in Wasilla, Alaska, as part of ORCA 2023. The exercise increased interoperability among a range of agencies, including the Alaska National Guard’s 103rd Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team, 12 National Guard units, eight local and state agencies, three federal organizations, and community partners.

New York Guardsman is Air National Guard Airman of the Year

New York Air National Guard Senior Airman Dhruva Poluru, assigned to the 107th Attack Wing's 222nd Command and Control Squadron, is the Airman of the Year for the entire Air National Guard. Poluru, is a full-time Guardsman working with the National Reconnaissance office in Herndon, Virginia, where he tracks satellites, among other duties.

Tennessee Air Guard Remotely Pilots MQ-9 From California

On June 7, 2023, an MQ-9 Reaper landed in Tennessee for the first time. Using a new system for the MQ-9 called “Satellite Launch and Recovery” and with a 118th Wing Tennessee Air National Guard pilot and sensor operator sitting at Berry Field Air National Guard Base, the plane flew from California to Smyrna Airport.

Kentucky Guard ‘Mountain Warriors’ Complete Annual Training

After five days of intense testing, 13 U.S. Army Soldiers and one Finnish Defense Forces soldier received the Expert Infantryman Badge June 15, 2023, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. The event was run by the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and tested Soldiers on their proficiency and skill as infantrymen over the course of five days. Soldiers were tested on physical fitness, day and night land navigation, more than 30 medical, weapons and patrol tasks, and a 12-mile ruck march.
