Ward: Guard partnership with Botswana a 'model' program

William Ward, commander of U.S. Africa Command, upon his arrival in Gaborone, Botswana, April 28, 2010. During Ward's visit, the first since 2007, he was scheduled to meet with senior military and civilian officials to discuss ongoing and future military-to-military and security cooperation engagements. The BDF conducted 40 military-to-military exercises last year making it one of the most active of U.S. Africa Command's partner nations.

North Dakota Airmen complete first humanitarian project in Ghana

Airmen with the North Dakota National Guard's 119th Wing Civil Engineer Squadron paint the trim on a building on Burma Camp near Accra, Ghana. The building will serve as classrooms to train members of the Ghanaian Armed Forces. The two-week mission for the North Dakota Airmen is providing valuable training on contingency skills while helping Ghana — North Dakota's pair in the State Partnership Program.

Illinois governor, Guardsmen pay respects at Polish consulate

Gov. Pat Quinn, Consul General of Poland Zygmunt Matynia and Army Brig. Gen. Robert J. Pratt gathered at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago April 13, 2010. Quinn, along with Illinois National Guard leaders, gathered at the consulate to pay respects to the Polish president, military leaders and other dignitaries, who were killed in the April 10 plane crash.
