Air Guard member receives presidential award for volunteerism

Air National Guard Master Sgt. Tammy Caban speaks after receiving the USA Freedom Corps President's Volunteer Service Award through the Military Volunteer Recognition Initiative in a ceremony at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building May 16. She was flanked by Marine Gen. James E. Cartwright, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Mary Jo Myers, President's Council on Service and Civic Participation member. Caban works in personnel at the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Va. Caban has volunteered with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors since 2004, providing grief assistance to families who have lost a loved one serving the military. She also volunteers to help patients at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

A C-130 Hercules cargo plane assigned to the 145th Airlift Wing, North Carolina Air National Guard, drops 3,000 gallons of water using Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) during the MAFFS 2008 annual certifying event. The annual training event includes all aircrew, maintenance, support personnel directly supporting the MAFFS mission. There are 4 Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve units involved with MAFFS: 145th Airlift Wing, (Charlotte), 146th Airlift Wing (Channel Islands), 153rd Airlift Wing, (Wyoming) and the 302nd Airlift Wing (Colorado).P
