Mullen: National Guard essential to the warfight

Michael Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, tells 1,500 people gathered for the largest-ever National Guard Bureau Joint Family Program Volunteer Workshop and Youth Symposium in St. Louis, Mo., on July 21, 2008, that, "I put family support on an equal plain with individual and unit performance and sacrifice and service, because we cannot do it without you."

Maryland Civil Engineers Restore Bosnian Memorial

Master Sgt. Robert A. Gordon and Tech. Sgt. Shaun Blische, both members of the 175th Civil Engineer Squadron of the Maryland Air National Guard, restore a monument at Mount Igman, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The monument memorializes three American diplomats and their French driver, who were killed at the site in 1995. The memorial is being restored by members of the Maryland National Guard as part of a humanitarian civic action project under the auspices of the National Guard's State Partnership Program.

"In the end, it's America that can do this," Mullen says. "It's not DoD, and it's not the VA. We've all got to do this together."
JTF-East training rotating from Romania to Bulgaria

Texas lilitary forces came to southern Texas in anticipation of heavy flood relief efforts caused by Hurricane Dolly.
