Guardsman honors friend through service

Spc. Joseph Carter holds a photo of his best friend, Anthony Owens, who was killed in combat action Feb. 1, 2006, south of Baghdad, Iraq. Carter is deployed with the 1/187 Field Artillery Battalion of the South Carolina National Guard as part of the Paktika Provincial Reconstruction Team. Carter enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country and honor the life of his friend, who died while serving his country in Iraq. Carter now carries a photo of his fallen friend in his wallet on every mission.

TF Cyclone, Wolverine transfer authority

The incoming unit, Task Force Wolverine of the Vermont National Guard's 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain), took over operations in Parwan, Panjshir, and Bamyan provinces from Task Force Cyclone of the Indiana National Guard's 38th Infantry Division.
