Air Force dedicates Memorial

On behalf of all American citizens President George W. Bush accepts the Air Force Memorial during a dedication ceremony at its Arlington, Va. location overlooking the Pentagon on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006. Looking on are, from left: Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Rodney J. McKinley, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley and Secretary of the Air Force Michael W. Wynne. Designed by the late James Ingo Freed the memorial with its three soaring spires inspired by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds bomb burst manuever, pays tribute to and honors the patriotic men and women of the U.S. Air Force and its predeccessor organizations. An open house will run near the Pentagon in conjunction with the dedication ceremony which will feature performances by the U.S. Air Force Band, the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard drill team, and will culminate with a concert featuring country music performer LeeAnn Womack. National Guard program tackles critical warrant officer shortage

Some of 119 newly minted Army National Guard and Army Reserve warrant officers wait to enter their appointment ceremony in the Indiana World War Memorial Building on Sept. 30, 2006. The Citizen-Soldiers were in the first Warrant Officer Candidate class designed specifically for the National Guard and Reserve in a program developed by the National Guard Bureau and command chief warrant officers from several states to address a critical shortage of warrant officers.

The North Dakota National Guard medical group members and support personnel are in Ghana as part of Medflag 2006, which is a U.S. military medical exercise that is geared toward gaining and providing training and experience in management of world health problems, sharing of medical information and techniques with African host countries, and providing humanitarian civic assistance to host nation civilian populations as good will ambassadors of the United States.

Idaho Guard aviation unit takes part in major combat operation against Taliban
