Illinois Army Guard Transformation Enhances Capabilities

Spc. Dan Bounnavong, Troop C, 2nd Squadron, 106th Cavalry, and a British Soldier with Number 7 Company, Coldstream Guards go over an obstacle together as part of a training exercise between the United States and Great Britain at Ft. McCoy, Wis. in July. As part of transformation, the new unit is able to participate in a variety of new training opportunities.

The Baker City Armory, located on Campbell Street in downtown Baker City, Ore., was officially dedicated on August 31, 2006. The event was attended by Maj. Gen. Raymond F. Rees, Adjutant General, Oregon National Guard, and several original members of the F Co., 186th Infantry, 41st Division, some of whom saw action in WWII. The 40,000 square foot facility, completed in October 2005, will be utilized by community groups as well as the Oregon Army National Guard.

From their outpost nearly 1,000 feet above the dessert floor, Inman, Bealer and Sanders can monitor movement in the desert on one side, vehicles along a major highway on a second side, and suspicious "stow aways" aboard railroad cars on a third side.

Army National Guard aviation units to deploy to Iraq

Ladd, of Benton, initially mobilized with his unit on Valentine's Day in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit departed Fort Hood, Texas, on Sunday, August 20, after completing its initial mobilization training. Ladd's unit is deploying with the Texas National Guard's 36th Combat Aviation Brigade and will be responsible for maintenance of UH-60 Blackhawks, CH-47 Chinooks and AH-64 Apache helicopters in the Iraqi theatre of operations.
