Sgt. 1st Class William Pegler, the battalion fuel handler for the Florida National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group deployed to Camp Montrond, Afghanistan, still wears an Americal Division combat patch he earned while serving in the Vietnam War. His unlit cigar is also a staple for the 58-year-old grandfather.

Iowa ADT discovers complexity of Kunar agriculture at demo farm

The farm is owned and operated by the government of Kunar Province near Asadabad, Afghanistan. The soldier and airman were part of a mission to assess the farm, which produces corn, soybeans, tea and locust trees for timber. The ADT found the demonstration farm to be superbly run and the farm manager to have a high degree of agricultural expertise, leading the ADT to focus on methods of transferring the farm manager's skill-set to farmers throughout the province.

The satellite allows for secure network access in almost any remote field location to provide internet and telephone services to field units where normal ground communication lines are not available.
