Tennessee National Guard Col. Jack Usrey pulled his vehicle over and saluted a passing funeral procession in this photo that went viral on the internet. He was subsequently identified and spoke by phone to the woman who snapped his photo on July 6, 2017.

Ohio National Guard conducts water crossing exercises with Hungarian forces

GYOR, Hungary - Military vehicles belonging to 1st squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany, are ferried over the Danube River during a rehearsal river crossing at Gyor, July 4. The ferry is employed by 837th Brigade Engineer Battalion, Ohio National Guard, and 37th Engineer Regiment, Hungarian Ground Forces. The exercise, Szentes Axe, a Hungarian-led exercise under Saber Guardian, facilitates the freedom of movement for 2nd Cavalry Regiment as the unit moves into Romania for more training with NATO Allies and partners. Citizen-Warrior: Airman with Ohio Air Guard uses engineering background in repair-shop innovation

Tom Burden, a weapons mechanic with the Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing, stands with the tool mat he invented using his civilian background in mechanical engineering. While working on one of his unit’s F-16 Fighting Falcons, Burden almost fell while trying to retreive a tool that had slid down the aircraft’s curved surfaces. Burden’s mat allows mechanics to safely keep needed tools handy, even on curved surfaces.
