Army Guard warriors compete to be best of the best

Army Sgt. James Nelson, 50th Brigade Special Troop Battalion, New Jersey National Guard, pulls a 125 pound medical stretcher about 30 yards during an timed evaluation as part of the Army National Guard's Best Warrior Competition in Fort Benning, Ga. Aug. 6, 2011. Nelson was one of seven Army Guard members who competed for the title of Soldier of the Year throughout the five days of competition which began Aug. 4, 2011.

Maryland Air Guard embarks on new era

New York Air Guard Wing selected to conduct MQ-9 pilot training for Air Force

Members of the 174th Fighter Wing Maintenance Group prepare a MQ-9 Reaper for its initial taxi at Wheeler-Sack Army Air Field at Ft. Drum, N.Y., on June 30, 2011. The pre-taxi activity took place in temporary hanger space provided by the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division. This milestone represented the unit's first step toward flying the MQ-9 from its detachment at Ft. Drum. The wing is based at Hancock Field in Syracuse, New York.

The operation supports U.S. Pacific Command’s capacity-building efforts by partnering with other governments in the region to provide medical, dental, optometry and engineer assistance to their citizens. Major Duff is an ear, nose and throat surgeon assigned to the 154th Medical Group, Hawaii Air National Guard. Captain Heng is a medic in the Royal Cambodian Air Force.
