109th Airlift Wing Makes Historic South Pole Landing

The Tethered Aerostat Radar System is a low-level surveillance system that uses aerostats as radar platforms. An aerostat is a lighter-than-air, inflatable, aerodynamic balloon filled with helium and air. The primary mission is to provide low-level radar surveillance along the southwest border of the United States and Mexico, the Straits of Florida and the Caribbean in support of federal agencies involved in the nation's drug interdiction program.
Guard, Reserve Team Up to Make Child 'Pilot for a Day'

Michael Ogunjimi, 10, of Washington, D.C., joins Air Force Reserve Capt. Scott Clark, 756th Air Refueling Squadron pilot, to salute from the wing of a KC-135 Stratotanker Oct. 27. The 459th Air Refueling Wing and the District of Columbia Air National Guard 113th Wing teamed up to host the "Pilot for a Day" program. "P4D" is a community outreach program that allows military and civilian children of all ages who suffer from serious or chronic medical conditions to visit an installation for a day.
Air Traffic Service Soldiers Deploy to Iraq Theatre of Operations

Maj. Gen. Ron Chastain, the adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard, visits with Soldiers and their families during a going away celebration on Monday at Camp Shelby, Miss. Family members and Guard leaders gathered at Camp Shelby to bid farewell to the Soldiers, who were deploying with Company D, 1st Battalion, 114th Aviation (Air Traffic Services) of the 77th Aviation Brigade. Over 60 Soldiers strong, the unit departed Camp Shelby, Miss, on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, for their yearlong deployment in Iraq.

Lt. Col. Patricia Anslow, commander of the Arkansas Army National Guard's 875th Engineer Battalion, and Command Sgt. Maj. Billy Ward proudly uncase the unit colors at a formal transfer of authority ceremony at Camp Striker, Iraq, Nov. 1, 2006. The 875th took over from the Missouri Army National Guard's 110th Engineer Battalion, which is completing a yearlong deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
