Kentucky Guard Aviation Brigade Demonstrates Readiness

Spc. Connor Ridings, Kentucky National Guard, builds links on an Air Defense Systems Integrator to provide command and control data and track the activity of friendly and enemy forces within the airspace of the unit’s area of operations. The combat readiness and capabilities of the 63rd Theater Aviation Brigade, supported by the 751st Troop Command, were tested during the Warfighter 23-05 exercise at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, May 27-June 13, 2023.

On June 7, 2023, an MQ-9 Reaper landed in Tennessee for the first time. Using a new system for the MQ-9 called “Satellite Launch and Recovery” and with a 118th Wing Tennessee Air National Guard pilot and sensor operator sitting at Berry Field Air National Guard Base, the plane flew from California to Smyrna Airport.

Kentucky Guard ‘Mountain Warriors’ Complete Annual Training

After five days of intense testing, 13 U.S. Army Soldiers and one Finnish Defense Forces soldier received the Expert Infantryman Badge June 15, 2023, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. The event was run by the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and tested Soldiers on their proficiency and skill as infantrymen over the course of five days. Soldiers were tested on physical fitness, day and night land navigation, more than 30 medical, weapons and patrol tasks, and a 12-mile ruck march.

West Virginia Guard Hosts Irregular Warfare Exercise

Approximately 25 Soldiers with 1st Squadron, 104th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat team, 28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, conducted rappel training June 13, 2023, at a rock formation near Fort Indiantown Gap. The Soldiers used mountain warfare skills to ascend the north face of the rocks with harnesses and ropes, then rappelled down the south face approximately 100 feet.
