South Carolina National Guard assists with life-saving mission during Hurricane Matthew

The South Carolina National Guard has assets staged throughout the lowcountry and along the coast to respond to emergency situations during and after Hurricane Matthew, including vehicles that can transport medical personnel and other first responders through high-water areas and engineer assets to help clear debris in the aftermath.

A search and rescue team with the Florida National Guard wades into areas in St. Augustine, Florida, affected by Hurricane Matthew to assist with disaster relief efforts. More than 9000 Guard members are on duty throughout Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas assisting state and local authorities with search and rescue and relief operations.

Cook is the national chairman of the group that represents the Army Guard in 54 States and Territories.

Alaska Air Guard pararescue teams save injured hiker

An aircrew with the Alaska Air National Guard’s 210th Rescue Squadron flies at treetop level aboard an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter while taking part in a search and rescue training event. Aircrews from the 210th RQS, in addition to crews from the 211th and 212th Rescue Squadrons, rescued an injured hiker near Pioneer Peak, Alaska, Thursday. Aircrews and pararescue teams from the squadrons often assist the U.S. Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers, the National Park Service and other agencies with search and rescue missions.
