The climbers became stranded at 8,500 feet in elevation due to weather and signaled for help, which evoked the launch of a rescue effort by the Alaska Air National Guard. The New York Air National Guard flies the only ski-equipped C-130 aircraft in the world and has supported the annual Canadian Forces exercise in 2014, 2015 and again in 2016.
