Army Guard Soldiers set to compete in Best Ranger Competition

Sgt. 1st Class John Melson, assigned to the Massachusetts Army National Guard’s D Company, 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment, ascends the climbing tower at the Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia, April 5, 2016, in the run up to compete in the Best Ranger Competition. Melson  is one of eight Soldiers from throughout the Army Guard selected to take part in the upcoming competition, which tests Ranger-qualified Soldiers on a variety of tactical and technical tasks over a physically and mentally demanding course. Competitors from the Army Guard have been training at the WTC for the past several months in preparation for the competition.

Army Guard takes top honors in Army environmental awards program

Paul Catlett, the environmental program manager at Camp Blanding, Fla., inspects portions of a project at the installation to restore 500 acres of land unable to support plant growth as a result of mining operations in the 1950s. The restored land not only now supports plant and animal life, but netted the Florida Army National Guard top honors in the annual Secretary of the Army Environmental Awards program.
